Well when it comes to college, most of us share the memorable moments we cherish. Some of us recall those moments saying those were the best moments of life and so on.
Indeed College life is definitely a good phase of life. Although some of us get lost on the path of life while some manage themselves somehow and do well in our careers irrespective of which college we studied.
Through the means of this blog, I'll be sharing my own experience in college, the challenges I face, what the daily routine looks like, and so on.
And definitely the answer to your Question: How do you manage to do multiple things while attending the college with 75% attendance criteria as well?
Let's get started.
Hey everyone, I Nitish, currently in my sophomore year of college, pursuing a major in Computer Science and Engineering from Lovely Professional University. I'm a Team member of Kubernetes, Ambassador of Sema Software, MLSA, and also run a Youtube channel where I host technical talks and make tech-related content, etc.
My first year went completely online due to covid situations. Many of the folks were excited to begin their college journey, enjoy, chill, and much more. The fact that college was online now didn't affect me at all.
What I used to do was: Join the lecture online and do my own work rather than attending lectures.
During my first year of college, I explored a lot. I came to know what is Open source, started contributing to K8s, started my own Youtube channel, taught mathematics, started learning DevOps and Java, and did freelancing as well. Eventually doing multiple things at a time helped me a lot because it helped me to realize what are my interests.
The real journey into tech started in my 2nd semester. That's when I started contributing to K8s, submitted applications for different roles, rejected, accepted and so the journey goes on.
Now comes the 2nd year of college: OFFLINE
At the end of July 2022, my college was about to reopen completely in the Offline phase. At some point in time, I'd ask myself 'How will I manage my time doing different things? ', 'What about grades?' , '75% attendance criteria', and so on.
But the fact that I'm writing this blog while sitting in my hostel makes me realize that I've somehow managed my time and restricted myself from instant dopamine release as well.
At the start of the first day, I was completely blank. No idea what type of students I'll come across and many more. I attended my first offline college and it was a good experience after all which now is DEFINITELY NOT! Haha! Sorry but that's the fact.
It took me the first week to understand what type of students are in my class and college, who are the folks who're doing some amazing work for the community, who're the folks who just spend time here and there and so much more. I OBSERVED A LOT!
The fact that I observed a lot is the reason I've very few friends in college which is completely fine. Thanks to the amazing folks whom I've met on Twitter.
Now, you might ask me "Nitish, What about Youtube channel?", "What about Open source?" , "What about college lectures and assignments?", "Did you stop paying attention to the side hustles?"
NO!
When it comes to offline college, Time management is the key!
So this is what my daily routine on weekdays in college looks like:
- I prefer waking up early morning, around 4:30 AM, giving myself a break of 30 minutes, writing a To-Do list, and starting the day around 5:00 AM doing Data Structures and Algorithms for 2 hr.
Note: Depending upon the class schedule, the to-do list varies as well.
Around 7 AM, I'd read Java and DSA notes for 1 hour until 8:00 AM.
Around 8 AM, I'd freshen myself, have a bath, and eat the food in the mess in hurry. Tbh, I get a lot of negative vibes in the hostel mess but can't do anything.
- After that, I'd travel to my classroom which eventually takes 15 minutes.
All this crowd I see early morning gives me the motivation to work harder
- In between breaks, I usually prefer spending time in the library and doing some small work and sometimes chilling. I'M NOT A NERD!
- Reaching the room by 5:30 PM, I prefer to take a small break and do the work I've listed on my To-do list and get the work done by 12:00 AM
Well, that's what my daily routine on weekdays looks like. On weekends, I prefer hanging out in the evening, giving some time to myself, either playing in the playground, listening to songs, etc.
Here's an interesting thing:
I prefer skipping lectures in order to get more time so that I can invest that time into something more productive and useful to me. Here's a glimpse of me shooting a video in my hostel early morning:
Even attending offline college with 75% attendance criteria, I got two options, either sit ideal and curse my college for the same or do something to cope with it. I chose 2nd.
The BEST thing is when someone from your college recognizes your work!
The Journey is HARD! I too fail! I too don't get time! I too face a bad internet connection here! I too get assignments to complete! But I'm not the only one. Everyone goes through it.
So, if you've read up here, I want you to know that nothing can ever hold you back except your own mind. Situations are difficult for every single one of us.
Here are some of the points that you need to keep in mind:
- It's completely fine to walk alone and have no friends in college.
- Utilise the time you get in between your lecture breaks.
- Start small! Keep doing it, results will start showing up!
So that's what my University experience looks like. Not so good, not so bad either. Although I'd definitely wish to get a good internet connection and some good food too.
Cheers to all the nights we are spending to achieve something we all desire for!
